The Art of Customization
Step 1 is the choice of different widths for the tape

Different widths are generally used in custom lanyard production and promotional products. The wider the tape, the more noticeable the logo or design can be, while narrower widths are often chosen for practical, minimalist lanyard needs.

Here’s a chart with common lanyard tape widths in millimeters (mm), showing their approximate sizes in other units (inches) and how they compare in width:

Step 2 involves the choice of colours for your lanyard. There are two different options.
The first option is yarn dyed whereby the lanyard tape is constructed from yarn that is pre-dyed in a finite number of colours. We are fortunate to have several suppliers of yarn and therefore a broader range of yarn colours than the usual 20-50 colours available by a single supplier. This is a more steadyfast option and typically more bold in colour.

The second option is for the dye sublimation onto a white base coloured tape. Using this method we can achieve a closer match to pantone colours. The tolerance range using this method is approx. 85-90% to the Pantone colour chart much larger than the usual 60-70% of yarn dyed.

Step 3 is to choice of the type of material for the lanyard.
Lanyards are commonly made from a variety of materials, each offering distinct characteristics suited to different uses. Here’s an explanation of the six most common lanyard materials:

1. Polyester
Polyester is a strong, affordable, and smooth fabric that is resistant to wrinkles, shrinking, and stretching. It’s commonly used for promotional purposes due to its ability to hold vibrant colors and be easily printed with logos. Polyester lanyards are lightweight and durable, making them a popular choice for everyday use.
Summary: Affordable, durable, smooth texture, vibrant colors.

2. Nylon
Nylon is a stronger, more flexible synthetic fabric with a smooth, shiny finish. It’s highly resistant to abrasion and is perfect for heavier items like keychains or badges. Nylon lanyards are often chosen for professional or upscale settings due to their durability and premium feel.

Summary: Strong, flexible, abrasion-resistant, shiny appearance.
3. Bamboo
Bamboo lanyards are made from renewable, natural bamboo fibers, making them an eco-friendly and biodegradable option. They offer a unique texture and are naturally antibacterial, though less durable than synthetic fibers. These lanyards are ideal for sustainability-conscious buyers.
Summary: Eco-friendly, natural, antibacterial, biodegradable.
4. Recycled Materials
Recycled lanyards are made from repurposed materials, like plastic bottles. They provide a sustainable alternative while maintaining durability and strength similar to polyester. These lanyards help reduce waste and support environmentally conscious initiatives.
Summary: Sustainable, durable, made from recycled products.

5. PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride)
PVC lanyards are made from durable plastic that is resistant to water and chemicals. They often feature a glossy finish and can be molded into various shapes, making them ideal for custom designs or promotional giveaways. PVC lanyards are practical and long-lasting.
Summary: Durable plastic, water-resistant, customizable designs.
6. Silicone
Silicone lanyards are flexible, lightweight, and highly resistant to wear, temperature, and moisture. They are comfortable to wear and can be customized with vibrant colors and logos, making them popular for promotional events and giveaways.
Summary: Flexible, durable, water-resistant, comfortable.

Step 4 is choice of weaving used in the construction of the tape.

1. Ultra Fine Weave
This weave uses very thin threads for a delicate, smooth texture, offering a refined look and feel. Used for Dye Sublimation Print

2. Single-Layer Woven
A simple weave that uses one layer of material, providing a lightweight and cost-effective option for basic lanyards. Used for Jacquard single side.
3. Double-Layer Woven
This weave features two layers of material, enhancing durability and strength while offering a more substantial feel. Used for Jacquard both sides.
4. Flat Woven
A classic weave with a flat, wide surface, ideal for clear printing and offering a comfortable, sturdy lanyard. Used for silk screen print.

5. Overlays with Satin
Satin overlays are added to the woven base for a glossy finish, creating a premium look and feel with enhanced visual appeal. Used for silk screen print.

6. Tubular
This weave creates a round, tube-like shape, making the lanyard soft, flexible, and comfortable to wear, often used for more casual designs. Used for silk screen print.
